ADULTHOOD: A BIG SCAM

Navigating adulthood one imperfect step at a time…

Dearest reader,

(wink, wink, I know, I know, it sounds like I’m channelling Lady Whistledown from bridgerton but bear with me, this is going to be a fun ride.

Adulthood is a total scam! I mean, who thought it was a good idea to leave our teenage years behind and enter a world of bills, taxes, mental breakdowns and so on.

Fear not, dear reader ( okay, I’ll stop with the lady whistledown vibes now), for I am here to spill the tea. Adulthood is a big fat lie, and we’re all just winging it except for those who are annoyingly perfect people on Instagram, but let’s not talk about them.

After seeing the title of this article, I’m sure the first thing that came to your mind is the song “Adulthood na scam ” by Lade. Honestly, she wasn’t wrong at all.

Take me back to the carefree days when I didn’t have to worry about what to eat, when all I had to do was sleep, wake up, play, and enjoy meals without a thought. Take me back to the days when my birthday was a joyous celebration, filled with excitement and anticipation. Oh, for the simplicity and wonder of childhood once again!.

Take me back to the days when life was easy, I didn’t have to worry about bills, and didn’t know what stress was. I miss the Sundays when I’d go to my dad’s room with fake tears to ask for money to buy noodles, egg, and milk – it was my favorite weekly tradition!

We all couldn’t wait to grow up, but now that we’re adults, we finally get what our elders meant when they said “you’ll understand when you’re older”

We once longed for independence, but now that we have it, we’re not sure what to do with it. We miss the days when we’d argue with friends and make up quickly, when we’d receive pocket money without a reason, and when we’d be pampered and forced to take medicine when we were sick. Now, we’re grown up and have to motivate ourselves to take care of our health, because if we don’t, our bodies will suffer.

Remembering the good old days, I recall the iconic ice cream truck tune that would fill the air, signaling its arrival. Every child knew that melody.  I’d dash downstairs, eager to persuade my mum to treat me to a cold, sweet delight. It felt like my world would end if I didn’t get one – the excitement was that real!

I fondly remember the thrill of Christmas and New Year’s, which meant new outfits, fun outings, cash, gifts, and more. I was so attached to my Christmas clothes that I’d protest when it was time to change. I would cry and ask Mom why I couldn’t wear them till the next day. She’d smile, shake her head, and say, “Christmas isn’t every day.” I would look up at her with tear-stained cheeks and innocently ask, “Why isn’t Christmas every day?” Ah, the magic of childhood!

Where did it all go wrong?

If you’re still young and eager to grow up, slow down! You don’t realize the treasure you have now. I’d give anything to go back to those carefree days. I wish I could turn back time and fully appreciate those moments, but unfortunately, that’s not possible. Enjoy your youth while it lasts, because trust me, you’ll miss it when it’s gone.

Even as an adult, I still have moments where I think, ‘I need my mom!’ It’s funny, because I finally understand what she meant when she said, ‘You’ll understand when you grow up.’ Now I get it.

The good old days! When life was simple, fun was easy, and worries were few. Let’s reminisce about the good times, laugh about the silly times, and embrace the joy that childhood brought us. who knows? Maybe we’ll even learn to appreciate the little things in life, all over again!

Till I write again, it’s bye for now.

Thank you for reading ❀️❀️❀️.
